AT LABS METHOD MODIFICATIONS

Many of the OSHA and NIOSH methods quoted on our analytical reports have been modified.  Obviously, since Assay Technology, Inc is a company founded on the use of diffusive monitors, a significant modification for many of these methods is the use of a diffusive monitor instead of active sampling media.  In addition, many of the NIOSH and OSHA methods were established before significant improvements to technology that are now commonplace in the industry.  Also, we have added some extra quality control to make the methods more stable and reliable.  Below is a list of the modified methods AT Labs untilizes and what their major modifcations are:

Analytical Method Chemical(s) Modfication
TO-11 Aldehyde Media is GFF, inside a badge.  Eluant have been adjusted.
OSHA 186SG Acetic Acid Carbon wafer instead of charcoal in a tube.
OSHA 7 Organics Use of Cosolvents to better extract Alcohols, ketones; Dual column; Use of Internal Standards; Diffusive media; Different columns from column listed.
OSHA 52 Acrolein Carbowax column; diffusive badge (Treated silica gel on aluminum wafer)
NIOSH 1640 Acrylonitrile Diffusive badge, Benzyl Alcohol cosolvent instead of Acetone; Use of Internal standards; dual column
OSHA 125 Metals, ICP Some metals digested using NIOSH 7082 method and some using NIOSH 7301.
OSHA 188 Ammonia GFF treated media, instead of carbon beads.  Utilized the ISE option
NIOSH 6011 Chlorine, Bromine None
OSHA 60 Amine Badge Media:  NIT on GFF.  Reverse Phase instead of normal phase.  Solvent:  Acetonitrile/Water
NIOSH 7600 Hex Chrom None
OSHA 32 Phenols (badge) Badge Media:  Carbon instead of silica gel.
NIOSH 6010 HCN None
NIOSH 7401 Alkaline Dust No CO2 purge during the analysis.
NIOSH 500, 600 Dust None
OSHA 55 Super Glue Tenax-TA media instead of XAD-7.  Media inside of diffusive monitor.
ASTM D5578 Ethylene Oxide Carbowax column; Badge media different carbon than the tube;  Acetonitrile/Toluene Solvent (badges only)
NIOSH 7902 Fluorides ONLY WATER SOLUBLE FLUORIDE PARTICULATES
NIOHS 2016 Formaldehyde DNPH on GFF instead of silica gel.  Use of buffer to neutralize the extract.  Methanol as eluant.
OSHA 64 Glutaraldehyde DNPH on GFF instead of silica gel.  Use of buffer to neutralize the extract.  Methanol as eluant.
NIOSH 2532 Glutaraldehyde DNPH on GFF instead of silica gel.  Use of buffer to neutralize the extract.  Methanol as eluant.
OSHA 42, 47 Isocyanates None
NIOSH 7903 Acids None
NIOSH 6013 Hydrogen Sulfide Slightly different extraction solution.
NIOSH 1550 Hydrocarbon mixtures Internal Standard, Dual Column Confirmation, Diffusive media
NIOSH 6014 Nitrogen Oxides Badges Only:  Sampling media is treated GFF instead of instead of treated molecular sieves
OSHA 214 Ozone Collection Media inside a difussive monitor instead of a cassette.  Slightly different eluant.
NIOSH 1500 Hydrocarbons Internal Standard, Dual Column Confirmation, Diffusive media
OSHA 52 Acrolein Diffusive media instead of a tube when applicable.  Carbowax column.  External Calibration.  Standards prepared by adding Acrolein into a solution of 2-HMP and Toluene, instead of spiking onto media.  Extracted with 2 mL instead of 1 mL.  All standard solutions and extracts stored in amber glass.
ASTM 5578-94 Ethylene Oxide Diffusive media instead of a tube when applicable.  Methanol is used as the solvent with tubes.  Carbowax column.
OSHA 103 Anesthetic Gases Diffusive media instead of a tube when applicable.  Analytical standards not ISO 17025 complaint.  (No suppliers could be located.)  Solvent is Carbon Disulfide instead of Toluene.  Internal standard calibration.  Dual FID instead of just one column.
